A realization from volunteering...

Today, I went back to volunteering for paper packing. We were moving fast with our system that we had set up to work together with each person specializing in a different section. It was pretty much a boring day, with paper packing in the morning and then home for the rest of the day.

However, I did realize something about life from this part of my volunteering experience. Yesterday, I did not know the volunteers very well or at all. Today, the same bunch of people volunteered, but I realized that we had become somewhat of friends from just working together. Today, I was joking around with all of the volunteers. If seen from a complete stranger's point of view, they would probably have thought that I was good friends with some of the volunteers, or even have known them for many years, as we were chatting and talking openly.

It was already a known fact that this type of situation occurs, where people will get together and work together very well for a common goal, despite their unfamiliarity with each other. Even though I already knew this, I did not expect to be a part of something like this. But it did turn out for the better! We got things done in a timely manner, and we had fun while working together. We were joking around a lot. And when I had to leave today, they were also joking around that I must pay a penalty for leaving so early. What a silly bunch of people.

This event caused me to wonder... whether it is possible to mend the damaged relationship between people. How far can the extent of working together go?

It is something I hope to find out... but it is also something that may never be answered...
