Happy Events!

So, after not having checked facebook in a while, I received a message from my friend who I call "Boss". He recently came back from Iraq for a month and proposed to his girl friend :) He left a message on my wall saying that he'd come by LA and wanted to meet me :D I'm so stoked! ZOMG Finally! I'd get to meet BOSS!!! This is a wonderful day! :D Time to get in contact with him!

Also, I think I'll buy them a small gift for when I meet them :D The two of them are coming down from Oregon to Phoenix, Arizona and will be passing by California on their way down. :) They also are bringing their daughter, or Boss's new daughter, so I will also buy something for her :) I believe she likes bunnies... so something small and cuddly would be good :) Today is a great day! :D

Windows + Defrag

After browsing slickdeals yesterday, I saw an offer for a free defrag program. Vista is said to always defrag the computer every once in a while but I found that to be a negative... So, I took up this offer and installed it. There was the program, the free license... and all I needed to do was click the start button. IT WORKS! It's working so hard right now that it says the estimated time before it is done is 1 Day and 5 hours...

I'm now doing stuff on my desktop instead of my laptop... I don't want to mess with my laptop while it is defragging... :'( My poor baby's gonna be idle for a day... But that's ok :) I'm learning new designing methods from going through some random photoshop tutorials :D Photoshop... ahh... so pretty... and fun! :\ But after this flare of excitement is gone... I'll be BORED :(

Another Long Day

As my previous post stated... I ended up spending most of the night editing my friend's essay for his fellowship. Gladly... I finished but ended up having to sleep into the afternoon.

I thought I was going to be able to rest the remainder of the day... but I was quite wrong... My family came back shortly and told me to get dressed. We were headed for the car dealers to watch my sister go through paper work. I swear... I am not going to enjoy going through all that paper work when I finally decide to purchase a car... :) Would be an awesome thing tho... don't get me wrong! :D A new car's a new car! There's nothing bad about it! Well... except maybe the costs and paper work... But you get the point...

After the car dealers...Next stop! Triple A Insurance paper work!!! It was already dark by the time the paper work was finally finished ... Since we were out in the middle of San Gabriel, my parents decided to go have dinner at a nearby Chinese Harbor Restaurant to celebrate my sister's birthday. Boy... that place was well decorated... but it lacked the customers that one would see in a "busy" and "popular" restaurant...

Like everything else that happens to me... something goes wrong... After having a few bites of the food... I began having a very sharp pain in my stomach... It was very discomforting and caused me to have very little for dinner... T_T... Sighs... I technically passed out in the car on the way home. It was not until around 9 or so when the pain finally subsided.

T_T I've been known in my family to have a very weak stomach... Also, Beatrice mentioned that maybe I was having an allergic reaction to something...but then again... I was not swelling or having any rashes... just a sharp pain in my stomach.

Early Morning

... I just finished editing my friend's paper... with a crap ton of suggestions and comments... I hope he doesn't hate me after all that writing... @_@ ...

There goes half my day... :D Gonna spend the rest of it sleeping!!! :D Good nites everyone!!!

Ideas and Misunderstandings

Randomness:
Sometimes what you want to express isn't always understood by the other party. You might want time away from the other, but the other will see it as you disliking them. Or at other times... you might want to tell them how precious they are, but the other misses the point. To have someone that understands you completely is an amazing bond. There are very few that are like that, always understanding the other party, knowing what they will do. It might be creepy, but if you think about it... the other will always anticipate what you want, and be there by your side. Because you wanted them there.

Day:
Woke up to the autoshop and car dealers... Not something I'd find to be pleasant, but it had its way til around noon. In which I returned to my chamber and slumbered away on Berny :D as my pillow :D (BEST THING EVER).

Then, I realized I had to help a friend review his paper for a fellowship. Although his paper was legible and understandable, it was difficult to put a word on how exactly to edit or make suggestions. There wasn't anything wrong with the paper, but at the sametime... the paper felt like it needed to be changed slightly. But how? I am currently still working on it... but... I will get it done to the best of my ability. After I had a lovely Haagen-Dazs ice cream bar ^_^

A day with a detective

Went to the Glendale Galleria today to watch Sherlock Holmes. From what I know about the movie, it sounded like it would be a complete comedy since Robert Downey Jr was Holmes. To my surprise, Robert Downey Jr was also capable of being a very serious actor. The movie was FANTASTIC! and GREAT! I also have a new reason for saying, "Don't worry... I'm a doctor!" I'd definitely recommend people to watch the movie!

Funny thing is that the movie is 2.25 hours long, so I had to measure how to ration the popcorn and soda. I didn't want to go midway through the movie to take a restroom break, so I drank sparingly and ate rapidly. :) Was a success!!!

After the fantastic movie, I went to Barnes and Noble... and there they had it... Advanced Photoshop Collection Volume 4!!!! Holy crap!! :D HAPPY!!!! :P I left the mall realizing that all of the clearance clothes are for L, XL or XL customers... :( *Sad*

At night, I was so prepared to just be lazy and rest but... My friend who I was performing the one-hundred pushup and two-hundred situp challenge with said he was doing them. Right then... my competitive flame rekindled! Giving me the strength to compete and do them!!!!! I did them alright... exhausted indeed I am :D

Aside from my blag updates :) I've been working on my website :) You can ask me what the site is if you want to read about it ^_^

Christmas and After :)

Christmas:
The day did not start at 6 am or later, but began at 12:00 am midnight. I was waiting for the moment Christmas started :) to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to open the gift I got from Beatrice :D To my amazement, it was the two volume set of "ROMANCE OF THREE KINGDOMS"! :D I am so thrilled!!!!!!! :D HEHEH! Charlotte says she has my gift in the mail :) so I will wait for that moment to get it and be wowed! :D hehe!

Christmas was not anything fancy, but was a rather quiet day. ^_^ It was very enjoyable! Except I learned never to let my sister cook food... : \ ever... it was quite... an unexpected treat... which rendered me aching in pain for a while...

I think on any occasion, to give people something is always better than receiving :) You can fill them with smiles ^_^ Like a bath towel with a big funny face :D or a small Domo-kun doll that can suck your blood! :) You feel great after you hear their reactions :D Gifts don't need to be big, or small. They don't need to be useful or useless. All that matters is the thought :) Merry Christmas! :D

Day after Christmas:
I woke up super early to deal with the autoshop. I should be getting it back monday. After dim sum with family, I returned and hugged my stuffed dog (Berny) to sleep. Yes... I gave the stuffed animal the name of Berny, short for Bernard. Because I'd like to get a saint bernard in the future.

At 7 pm, I was picked up by two of my friends from high school. We haven't seen each other in over 6 and a half years since high school. One currently works as a web designer at San Diego, and the other is going to Med School in San Fran. :) It was great seeing them again, and its amazing how none of us really changed. Still the same people from high school :) Ahh the memories... but the night had to end :) Today was a good day :D

A Simple Day?

Once again after not having updated my blag, I decided to once again restart what I had started.

Today was a simple day. I didn't sleep til around 6 am, and woke around 10 am to go get some shopping done. To my amazement :) I found a love-kun doll which I managed to bargain from 17 to 15 dollars. :D I'm learning very well the ways of bargaining! :D

The day was simple and enjoyable until I started working on my website. The design was completed in Photoshop and all was ready with the buttons and alignments and such. However... it was quite a task trying to figure out what things would work for FF AND IE together. Much frustration seemed to overtake me... and then my sister decided to offer me some red cranberry wine. Which I only wanted a little of... BUT she filled up the cup and laughed and left me to my own dire ways with this drink.

Let me tell you one thing... Alcohol and Frustration do NOT mix. I was starting to get more and more angry. But thanks to the "date rape" music that was given to me ;) I was able to calm down a great deal.

Then it came time to work on the one-hundred pushup challenge and two-hundred situp challenge. Unfortunately... I think I was still under the influence of alcohol as I was terribly weaker than I normally would be doing them. Darn you alcohol!!!! ... But I will try again tomorrow! :D

The origin of the name "Date Rape" music, comes from the fact that my friend manages to put me to sleep with his music when I'm over at his place. Soothing and works every time!

Greetings! I haven't blagged in a long while due to many reasons. One of which is probably that I am REALLY tired... But anywho... highlights of the past few days...

NINJUTSU... HOLY SHIT... that is fun... :) Apparently you can attain belts in ninjutsu... and I think I might wanna continue this type of martial arts in the future and it'd be cool if I could get a belt... or something... :) And train to become much more efficient in it... :D

Will catch up with friends and all ^_^

The day after surprises!

I haven't blagged in a long while, and for a good reason. School's been busy and I have been preparing for a surprise for Charlotte with Lady Beatrice! :) It was a great and EXCITING surprise!

Yesterday, Beatrice and I planned to surprise Charlotte at her place, as we gave her gifts and danced! It was not exactly a dance that I would find to be very appealing... as I did lose a bit of pride with my getup, but it was well worth it. :) I also realized that Charlotte is a HUGE fan of the Irish FootBall team! :) Cheers!

On this day, I finally went to my first concert! Or... well collection of artists playing. The concert was held at the Avalon, where Beatrice was kicked out before. Rumors had it that security guards who kicked her out are now lost within a bottomless pit, strangely after someone screamed "THIS IS SPARTA!" one night. We were situationed near a gay couple who I found was pretty interesting. They were wild in dancing but knew very well how to take care of themselves, such as not smashing into other people and to keeping to themselves.

Being the first time at a concert, the entire atmosphere was both exciting and strange. I found that there was a lot of good energy and head bobbing that I also did, despite this not being the type of songs I'm into. However, I did get into the beat and follow along with the head bobs. Doing so might have been a mistake though... as I kept doing calf lifts to bob up and down. Resulting in my feet and calfs feeling great tiredness today.

The tour was very fun :) They had random group videos playing while band instruments were being set-up. The first band was a group Charlotte loved! The second group was someone I proclaimed as "Side Show Bob" as his hair resembled him greatly. The third group was "Semi-Precious Weapons" ... I will refrain from commenting this group as I was quite ... scared ... :x ... Lastly, was LadyHawke... All I can say is wow... I love her New Zeland voice as I thought it was HOT!... :)

After all the fun, we went to have more fun unexpectedly at a exotic ... strip ... bar ... it ... was my first time... *giggles* :) I'll leave it just at that... :) All I can say is... I don't think strippers are without pride... After going to Cheetahs (name of the bar), I think I have more respect for these exotic strippers than I have before. They do not go nude, but they still do their best to make money. They are also very fit and toned to perform the way they do on poles... VERY enlightening.

Now... I crave Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs covered in Ground Beef in a Taco Shell!

A Half Day Post

:) Today my friend gave me a charm for doing well at school. He recently went to Japan and got that as a gift :) Since I told him "CHARMS!!! ZOMG GET CHARMS!!!" When he asked me what I wanted. :P And so Charm I got!

A White charm with a little Bell... :) I dunno where to put it but I will cherish it.

Phrase of the Half Day: Things are always bound to happen... whether you like it or not... just take it as a life experience... no matter how much it gets to you... it will go away by time...

A day above all

The day before... Was a wonderful day :)
Research got approved,
Found a friend to take Tai-Chi with,
Found a gym buddy to go work out with,
Class got added!
Drove back home nice and smoothly.

Also when I got home... more fun *Giggles*
But I'll just leave it as that.

Late Double Blag Post: Good Bad and the Amazing

It's been a long day yesterday and today, resulting in my absence.

Yesterday, I made my way to school by early noon and sat in on my friend's first TAing of a discussion class. He was rather scared about all this, but he did a good job. Afterward, he met up with someone to have lunch. One who I doubt I can ever approach ever again...

Besides that... the fear and stress of my days came at 3:30 pm. I had a meeting with a graduate student who I wanted to work with on research regarding a Human Body Model. After the talk, I made requests via email to get permission to use someone's project code for this research.

To me, waiting for a reply for something that I am concerned about is something that troubles me, a LOT. I am easily affected by things that cause stress, as I am unable to cope with such things... (This is something I need to work on... coping with stress). I am not a person who is happy when stressed out... and I usually let it take over me... unless if I tried hard not to show it or to suppress it... but even that tires me out greatly...

After waiting for a while, I got the response, informing me that as long as my advisor approves of me to work on this project, I will be allowed to use the code freely. I was greatly happy about this. I also made an email before asking my advisor if he'd allow me to work with this other graduate student. So, now I just have to wait for the responses.

Currently, I am still waiting for the responses. Today... I got to go out with my brother and his students to eat at Little Tokyo. It was indeed fun :P And also nice to see some of them again. I was being a big kid when I was there :) Always a kid at heart... but sometimes I wish that wasn't so...

From now on... adding a small saying at the end of every post...
Idea: There are a lot of good people in this world, but they don't always do good things...

The First Day of School!

Today marked the first day of school, starting my 2nd year of Masters. Arriving at around 11 am, the burning sun had already risen high in the brilliant sky. It showered everyone with hot rays as the air was hot and humid like an oven at 400 degrees. Today is a VERY hot day. I was wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt, as I treaded my way around campus. The campus was bustling with rowdy people, along with news reporter vans along side the turn around.

Following the route called Bruin Walk, I sought to look through the crowds to see if any familiar faces could be found. Unfortunately... none... I did realize however, that the reason for the news reports to be on campus, is due to the rally that some graduates, staff and faculty were doing. Apparently, due to the deficits and budget cuts, UCLA in winter and spring will raise their in-state tuition by 33% while raising out of state tuition by 2 times the amount. This was indeed devastating... but the rally wanted students, faculty and staff to not attend class or go on strike. I would love to help... but... I really needed my classes.

I journeyed my way over to the Graduate Lab, and there I found my friends, where we caught up on a lot... since I haven't seen them for a while... This lab is quite interesting, as it is EXTREMELY cold (where the AC is cranked up to the max). Due to staying in the lab for around an hour, I was ice cold, and had to seek the warmth from the sun. Leaving the premises of the building, I was thawed of my coldness. Warm once again, I started walking around, as I had an hour to kill. I managed to bump into a lot of friends and acquaintances. :) It was a very joyful and happy time. Resting on the grass... looking into the sun while sipping some ice coffee... Relaxing... but that must come to an end, as I journeyed back for class.

[Skipping Class Information ~ Boop]

Class ended around 3:40 pm... BACK HOME!! WOOO!!! REST!!!... 5:10 pm...

Then, I received an email telling me to email another graduate student about information regarding a human body model, where we could possibly work together on a project. I did not know his email, so I sought to find it by looking through the net. It was indeed a success as I found someone with the same first name. So, I emailed him telling him stuff... only to find out that I EMAILED THE WRONG PERSON WITH THE SAME FIRST NAME!!!... oh wells... :) Good day overall... Except now I gotta wait to see when I could meet with this person for discussing research projects...

Yesterday and Today...

For those of you who follow... I have forgotten to post... due to being busy with stuff... School for me starts tomorrow and it is not very thrilling. I am currently lost with which classes to finalize with. So... Yah... still figuring it out...

[Begin British Accent]
Last night, I had a very unexpected phone call from Charlotte, asking if I was willing to come over to visit Beatrice. It was around 5:30 pm or so, and my dear mother had started to cook... I was reluctant to make the request to skip dinner and go out... so I was leaning towards declining Lady Charlotte's offer. However, a messenger's call had come for my lord father, in which I immediately redirected to him. At that moment, a sudden rush of courage seemed to fill my soul... and I made the request to my dear mother... She allowed me to go... but in an angry manner... I WAS FREE!! "Charlotte! Come to me now! We shall go to visit Beatrice together!!" Not long... Charlotte arrived on her wagon and together we traveled to Lady Beatrice's castle.

We were nicely greeting by Lady Beatrice's Countess and Duke. They were marvelous hosts and offered us a lavish dinner. So lovely was the food, that Charlotte persisted to eat, despite the pain she had when chewing. She must have loved it... because she found that even the celery was prepared in a succulent and delicious way. We ended the night playing past-time games in their castle. :) We departed late into the night... Startled as I was when Beatrice appeared out of no where pounding on the wagon door. Only to return a belonging to Charlotte. It was a MARVELOUS night.
[End British Accent]

Today... there was very little to comment on... except... that... There are many things in life that are not black and white... there are always shades of gray everywhere. I must learn this... and acknowledge it... As it will be very important to survive in life... Thank you Beatrice... You have taught me well.

Flu Shots...

As you may know, I took the flu shot yesterday, and it is a weakened version of the real flu virus. Vaccines are is supposed to help you create antibodies by allowing your body to identify the virus and creating antibodies to prevent future infections by this type of virus. However, since the flu vaccine is contains a weakened version of the virus, not all of the virus cells in this vaccine are dead. With some still being alive, an infection can still happen, and blow up into a real flu infection, or saying that someone has caught the flu.

Early in the morning, since I woke up, I came down with a runny nose. I've had it since the morning and still have it now. I really do hope that the flu virus did not infect me. Because school starts on Thursday, and it would SUCK if I was sick.

Any who... nothing really eventful happened today again. As it was a nothing day.

However, I did learn that... something wonderful, does not need to be pricey or big. All it needs... is to be filled with thoughtfulness and fun... :)

*sneezes* Ugh...

A simple day of nothing

Weekends are usually solid treats of "nothing" filled with creamy "nothing" layered over a layer of "nothing" and sprinkled with small crumbs of "nothing". It is so rich in "nothing" that I am usually found sitting around lazily watching "nothing" and wearing ... err... something...

I spent most of the day literally doing nothing constructive. I was watching TV or playing games. For breakfast (or lunch, since I woke up around 11 and ate this meal around 12), I had a Sashimi Salad that managed to burn my tongue like CRAZY. My brother bought this Sashimi Salad from a market in Little Tokyo, and it is VERY SPICY. Although it is spicy, it was very tasty and delicious!

I walked away from the dining table sweating like crazy in the middle of the day. Before I had my lunch, Charlotte had called me and invited me to go with her to a concert tonight. However, I wanted to save my concert virginity for LadyHawke's Concert on Charlotte's lovely birthday. That made it all better, as I would be deflowered of my concert virginity on her birthday... How lovely!

The rest of the day was filled with nothing except playing games and watching soap operas. However... to my surprise, after sunset... my sister and mother came home with ingredients for a red wine sangria. @_@ Mmmm... what has become of my parents... who were so against alcohol in the house... Anyways... I will be enjoying this sangria later in the night... :) Looked good for one thing...!

Good bye to the weekend of "nothing". *puts on some clothes*

Another Late Post

Wow... I am falling behind! I cannot fall behind! Must keep posts updated!!!

Anyways... yesterday was quite a boring day. The only eventful part of the day was me getting my tetanus shot and flu shot. The tetanus shot I believe is a booster shot... And I can tell you... I am glad I did not get the shot the day before the tours... because currently... it feels like my entire arm is cramped... (left arm). I can understand that the tetanus shots are to prevent the metallic protrusions into our skin from killing us, because of the rust and all... but... why do these shots cause so much pain?!?!?! I did not look it up... and I am too lazy to look it up actually... but all I can say... is if you have any events coming up... DO NOT get a tetanus shot...

Else than that... I spent the day watching Rosy Business :) A TVB Soap Opera... Quite the entertaining ancient China setting about hardships regarding a rice growing family. :'( Really sad... but also very good :)

Late Post - Yesterday's Tour

Due to great exhaustion from doing tours at yesterday's Graduate Student Orientation, I passed out quite literally when I returned home at 9 pm.

The first tours happened at 11 am, but I arrived on campus at 9:30 am. Arriving at the starting position of the tours, I found that there were no Tour Booths set up, so I went to help out with the student registrations. There, I found one of my friends taking care of the Pe-Tu student booths. :P I hung out there fooling around with him and his booth partner. He also commented on the weight I had lost since I had my Small-Size t-shirt on :) *happy*

As it approached 10:40 am, I went back to the patio, where the Tour Booths will be set up, and found the Tour coordinator waiting there. I greeted him and helped set up tour signs and table. We were given four stands that would hold Styrofoam signs of : General Campus Tour, North Campus Tour, South Campus Tour and Graduate Student Tours. Unfortunately, they had given us the stands, but not the holders that we attached to the top of the stands that would hold the signs together. We did not know this initially, so all of the signs kept flying off when a small gust of wind flew by. Quite frustrating... but funny at the same time, until they brought the holders to us.

It soon came to around 11 am, when the first tours were originally planned to start. No one came... Probably because the plenary were still happening at the time. Around 11:05 am, people began to trickle in. Our coordinator started using a blow-horn/megaphone to talk to people, but he didn't turn it on. Fortunately, our friend Neil, who was coordinator for the food shouted out, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU ON THE MEGAPHONE!" Realizing what had happened, he turned on the megaphone and announced that the North Campus Tours and General Campus Tours were about to start. People began to gather towards the signs and thus began my day.

This was my first time doing tours, and I was very nervous. I was doing the General Campus Tour and had around 10 people on my tour. I had each person introduce themselves and their major and graduate program. I am Alastor, Masters of Demonic Revenge! Soon, we began the tours.

I told them initially that this was my first time ever doing a tour, and to excuse me if I was looking at these nicely created note cards that were here for convenience. *big smile* They all told me it was okay and followed me as I explained the different buildings and locations. I was very nervous doing this alone, as there were many pairs of eyes staring at me, and not all of them were smiles. Thus, I tried hard to make it fun and funny. I told them random information that were true about the campus.

Here are a few:
  1. The bruin bear goes into hibernation during USC VS UCLA games, to prevent the bear from being covered in a coat of paint.
  2. At Bruinwalk, avoid eye contact and look mean! They will avoid you.
  3. If you're at the Public Health Building, be prepared to get lost.
  4. Benefits U Coupons are reprintable!
I also said many other things, but I'll leave them out. The tour was long and exhausting in the hot burning sun. I remember walking forward with my back turned to them, and noticing that my entire arm was covered in sweat. Turning back to face them, each person was sweating like crazy, but continued to follow me. Whenever we walked into areas with shade, I told them all to walk slowly, so they could enjoy the cold air that was embracing them.

Throughout the tour, I there were a few smiles laughing left and right, which made me feel slightly relieved at those moments. Because, I would hate to give tours to people who just stare at you with no emotions. At the end, I told them it was my first time doing a tour and thank you for coming and welcom to UCLA. They said I did a good job and got back in time just for lunch. The tour had taken approximately 80-90 minutes long. And yes... I was staring at the index cards in front of them for a few of the buildings because I did not remember/know exactly what the buildings were for (i.e. this building is for this science and that research ... blah blah blah)

Returning back to my booth, I left my bottle and quickly went for lunch. Before going, I saw my tour guide partner (who I will be doing tours together with later) had came back just after I finished my tour, so we both went to get lunch. I found out that he only gave a tour for five people... which dwindled down to two because his tour members left... They had smoked turkey in a cabatta bread with "CHEESE", a small pack of pasta, a small pack of syrupt fruit and a brownie. Unfortunately, I had no lactaid pill with me, so I was quite enraged and unhappy... I had to peel off the top cheese layer off and then eat the sandwich... quite a hassle... After finishing the first half... second tours were beginning, so we had to leave our food at the booth until we return 90 minutes later.

This was the second tour that was happening at 12:45 pm. This time, there were very few people on the tours, so I got to do a double tour guide tour for the South Campus! :) This was quite a relief since I have someone I could talk to on the tour. This was only a tour for three people, all of which are majoring in Public Health. The tour went relatively smoothly, and since there were so few people, when me and my tour guide partner weren't giving out facts and information, the three public health majors were talking amongst themselves. We also got to converse about where they were living and how it was nice with the transportation and such. :) It was a fun tour! Small tours are always more personal and fun I think :) I did a lot of the talking for this tour... so I made sure that my tour partner would talk more in the next... sorta...

On our way back, we saw our tour coordinator telling us to take care of the booth while he was doing the 2 pm tour. Our tour ended with the three tourists thanking us :) And we happily returned to the booth. There... I was devastated to see that the hot burning sun had melted the cheese in my cabatta sandwich! I could not eat it anymore... so I had to go purchase my own lunch at the nearby cafe... a croissant and an ice tea.

By this time, it was already 2:15 pm and we would do the next tour at 3:30 pm. There, we all shared our experiences of our tours. One tour guide was quite the interesting one, finding the girls to be the main attraction of his tours. We had lots of funny stories that happened on each of our tours that we shared.

While waiting, another tour guide returned and told us how long the tours were and how he modified the tour to be "shorter". He also noticed that our tour coordinator had left his megaphone alone... He lifted it and said "Wow... he (the tour coordinator), would never let him touch this..." He began to fiddle around with the megaphone, and was able to find the button that produced the "Siren" noise. On his face, was the expression "Sweet". He began to recklessly use the megaphone... to get people on the 3:30 pm tour. Unfortunately... he did it in a very bad and joking way...

He would turn on the siren when he saw a people walk by, and based on what that person was doing, he would tell them it was the police and that they would have to pull over and take a tour. He was also getting very confused on the lefts and rights, as he told a girl that is supposed to turn left to us, to turn right instead. There was a LOT of humor. He was even telling people, "Excuse me sir... no cellphones on campus, please put it away! Would you like to take a tour?" Or, "Hi sir! Would you like to take a campus tour? We can show you were to buy weed!" There were a lot of shenanigans happening around with him and his megaphone. Our tour coordinator had returned but found it funny and let him continue to blast away with his megaphone. (Believe me... there were many worse things he said.)

By 3:30 pm... amazingly... there was a CROWD of people... Apparently his use of the megaphone had attracted a TON of people... But luckily :D me and my tour guide partner had only a small group of 3 again :) This was another small tour where we got to chat with one another again while we weren't explaining. They tourists had a lot of fun :) And thus after 80-90 minutes, the last tour was finished.

I had did 3 tours today, all of which were 80-90 minutes long, in the BURNING BURNING SUN! Thank god I had sunblock with me :) Except I think my nose right now is red due to lack of sunblock there... My second and third tour was a lot easier to do since there were less people and I didn't have to do it alone! :) It was a great experience as I got to meet a lot of people on the ASUCLA Committe and I got to meet a lot of people.

With our tours completed, we all went over to the graduate event, "Party on the Patio". This was held at the LA Tennis Center. There were burgers being served, cookies, soda, and alcohol (Beer or Wine). In addition to this, were the AstralAliens who came from Australia to perform. I wasn't a big fan of their music. I soon left after, due to being super tired and exhausted. And that concluded my day :)

Busy Day

As you can all see, I forgot to make a Blag post last night...

It primarily consisted of freaking out about the tour preparation. Shooting zombies. Chatting. Then drinking some alcohol. I blame the alcohol that my mom offered me to be the cause of forgetting to blag. :)

See you all later! Tours! HERE I COME!

Oh and btw... screw anti-perspirant/deodorant... I don't smell... I just sweat... and I don't wanna destroy my t-shirt...

Beatrice or Charlotte Size-Small :D EH? EH?! :D

My first tour of UCLA

One of the things that are required for this tour of UCLA on Friday, is the knowledge of the routes and buildings of UCLA. Today at 10 am, a few of the tour volunteers met up with the tour coordinator for a demonstration of the tour routes and explanations of the tours. It was quite a fantastic experience going through this tour with our coordinator. When I first came to UCLA, I never went on a tour of UCLA, so it was fun going through it... even though I am to perform the tour for people.

Although I attended UCLA for such a long time, there were many things that I did not know about the campus. While we went through this tour demo, I learned more about UCLA than I would have from just wandering. It was great learning these facts about the campus, but also quite daunting at how I would have to do a tour like this on Friday. This Friday... I will be sucking it up... and getting ready to perform a tour! I must prepare!!

In addition to preparing... I will have to look good for the tour. With my small t-shirt that is already nice ;) I am prepared for my upper body. Although I got chubby calfs, I will be wearing shorts that day, due to the sunny weather forecast. Since it is sunny, I also recall that I perspire a lot... so I went ahead and tried for my first time... antiperspirant/deodorant... I was luckily informed by Lady Beatrice that there is such a thing as "Deodorant Stains" that can happen on clothes. I was quite scared of such a thing... as I would like to keep my clothes stainless... but we'll see...

AND I STILL PERSPIRE DESPITE HAVING IT ON!!! :) But I do smell nice :)
Will I be ready for Friday's tour? ... :) Who knows?! :D Best of luck!!!

A realization from volunteering...

Today, I went back to volunteering for paper packing. We were moving fast with our system that we had set up to work together with each person specializing in a different section. It was pretty much a boring day, with paper packing in the morning and then home for the rest of the day.

However, I did realize something about life from this part of my volunteering experience. Yesterday, I did not know the volunteers very well or at all. Today, the same bunch of people volunteered, but I realized that we had become somewhat of friends from just working together. Today, I was joking around with all of the volunteers. If seen from a complete stranger's point of view, they would probably have thought that I was good friends with some of the volunteers, or even have known them for many years, as we were chatting and talking openly.

It was already a known fact that this type of situation occurs, where people will get together and work together very well for a common goal, despite their unfamiliarity with each other. Even though I already knew this, I did not expect to be a part of something like this. But it did turn out for the better! We got things done in a timely manner, and we had fun while working together. We were joking around a lot. And when I had to leave today, they were also joking around that I must pay a penalty for leaving so early. What a silly bunch of people.

This event caused me to wonder... whether it is possible to mend the damaged relationship between people. How far can the extent of working together go?

It is something I hope to find out... but it is also something that may never be answered...

A sandwich of fear and fun and fear... Dericious

Waking up from my slumber of the morning, I was greeted by an email of ginormous fear and shock. My boss had sent me an email asking me about details regarding the application that I was working on, this was an assignment that was passed down to me, since my co-worker left for summer. My boss found the structure of the application to be very strange and confusing. Most of these problems were already there when I first received this assignment, but I did not realize that it was such a big deal, as the code still worked. I explained myself about why things were the way they were in the application. He responded thanks for the explanation and then I continued on with my day. But a whim of fear still lingered inside, despite my boss saying thanks for the information that I replied with.

I soon arrived at my destination for the day... the Student Activities Center's Graduater Writing Center. There, I met an interesting bunch of people that were all helping to prepare folders (all of which are also volunteers, like me). I joined in on the fun, and within 30 minutes, finished the rest of their folders. Apparently, 1300 folders were prepared today, and all of them are to be organized and packed with important forms for the new graduate students. After the folders were finished, we proceeded to putting together the paper forms.

Initially, the head organizer for the paper packing, Hironoa, lifted out a folder with neatly packed papers in it. We were amazed at the colorful and organized manner of the folder. However, he soon turned and pointed to the side of the room, where many large boxes lay scattered across the room. Inside these boxes were copies of those forms that he presented to us from that neatly packed folder. There were a LOT of boxes... Placing them in stacks, we made a system where we would go from one end of the table to the other and the last person on the table would put the packed papers together into the folder. Following this machine-like organization, we managed to do about 600 of the folders by the end of the day.

HOWEVER! Near the completion of 300 folders, a NEW box was delivered into the room... informing us that we would need to place these into the back of the folders... I was obviously not happy... nor was everyone else that was helping.

Not long, it came time for the student orientation meeting that occured at 6 pm. There was supposed to be food served at this meeting... which it did... but it was PIZZA! The LEGENDARY ARCH-ENEMY OF ALASTOR!!! I am lactose intolerant... so I did not consider this... FOOD... Although I could not have the pizza, I did get a nice staff t-shirt. Originally, I was going for a large, but it was HUMONGOUS! Then, I looked at a medium... and it still looked large. So, I settled with a small. Oddly enough as it sounds, thanks to the weight I lost this summer, and the building up of muscles in my upper body, the small t-shirt fitted perfectly. Not only did I lose enough weight to fit a small, but this small t-shirt allowed me to display my slender form and curves quite nicely. I was quite impressed at how nicely it looked on me :)

I soon met up with two friends of mine that are also helping out with the graduate student orientation. One will be participating in paper packing and in early/late volunteering for stalls. The other will be doing tours with me. When the person in charge of the tours spoke about our duties and such, many funny conversations happened between me and my friend. We decided to call each other Tiger and Dragon during the tours, since we are both Chinese. We would be leading separate tours in the morning, so it would be wonderful if we could some how make the tours interactive with one another by calling each other that when our tours cross each other :) It was lots of fun and giggles during the meeting. :) I was quite amused and happy.

When I got home, I realized that I did not pay for my credit card. So, I made an online transfer, only to find that bank of america has their website located in Eastern Time! MEANING THAT MY PAYMENT MIGHT BE LATE!!!! Freaking out as you can see from my capitalized sentence, I went to my brother seeking help from the perilous danger that may lay ahead for my credit. I ended up calling Bank of America's Credit Card Customer Service and explained my situation, telling them that I made the payment but did not realize that it takes 2 days for the online bill transfer to be completed. After hearing my explanation, Matthew, my customer service representative checked the date of the online transfer and found that it was marked for the 14th. Seeing that my online transfer was made on the day of the due date, Matthew told me that he will waive the late charge fee. That settled the problem with my credit card payment, however... does it impact my credit?

Today was filled with fear, bliss, and more fear. I am unsure if I can say today was a good day or a bad day. All I know... is I am exhausted... and I want a cookie...

What is a friend?

Unfortunately... today was a very uneventful day... So... Unlike my normal blag posts... Today is going to be about random thoughts that have been bugging me lately... Oh yeah... This is a random topic day because when I am bored, it often leads me to think about random things.

Just moments ago, I was in the showers thinking about the things that have been happening to my life this summer. This summer was filled with experiences that will change my life, forever... I got a job in my field of studies. I got to experience many recreational sports which I will continue to do. I got to go out with friends which I will pursue to do. But one thing that will change forever... is that I have lost a close friend. (No... my friend is not dead... or at least not since our last argument... I dunno... haven't talked to them in a while).

To me, friends are very precious people. They are the embodiment of the memories you have experienced in your life. Throughout my childhood, keeping in touch with friends was a very difficult thing for me to do. I was never the type to come out and speak to people. I was a shy person. I was afraid of what people would do when I spoke to them. I found myself very uninteresting, never having anything eventful or interesting to talk about. I lacked the self-confidence and self-esteem to do things. It was very hard for me to make friends or keep in contact with them.

In elementary school, I thought I had many friends, but when I continued onto Middle School, I slowly lost contact with the people I grew up with. And from the transition from Middle School to High School, I lost touch with those around again. And from the transition from High School to College, everything seemed to fade.
I was only able to keep in touch with a handful of people. Only through internet communities could I keep in touch with some friends. However, this only provided a relationship that was as thin as spider's silk. The communication was really not much more than a "hi" and a "bye". After all this time, it came to my understanding that there are only a few close friends that I really had. The rest seems to be in the background, waiting for a time to say a "hi" and a "bye".

To me, friends are very precious because of the journeys you embark on together. Joy, Anger, Sadness and Surprise are all different experiences that a friend undergoes with you. You share moments that will stay as a part of your memory forever. They can be happy or
they can be sad. They will always be memories that will stay with you, til you die or til you somehow lose your memories.

It is this mere fact of friends being so precious, that I have been greatly distressed when I lost a close friend. Holding friends so precious, I dared not to think of severing ties with them. However, this close friend of mine, severed it... telling me that I can no longer be their friend, and never to communicate with them. It does not anger me that they did this act of severing ties. On the contrary, it disappoints me greatly. Such hope that you would have in someone... Shattered... And with this severing, I lost a part of myself, the memories of this summer with this friend will forever be a tainted memory that will slowly be forgotten. The lost of memories are painful. They will linger in your mind, hoping for you to grasp it once again. But the harder you try to reach for them, the more pain you will experience. And now, my memories are slowly fading as my exhausted mind sits unable to do anything, but watch them disappear into the darkness.

Friends are those who light the way you when you fall into darkness. Friends are those who provide shade from the blinding brightness. Friends are those who will make you remember your past and your very existence. Friends are those who put a smile on your face (quite literally with a red marker). Friends are those who will be there. Always...

It is all about the hair...

Although many of you may know, not all do... but I have long hair about 5 inches long. It has been with me since the beginning of Spring Quarter or longer. It has been with me through hardships and fun times! But today, I decided... it was time to remove the locks... which remind me of the sorrows that still haunt me from summer.

Today was also the day I began my Summer Break. As I will take a two week long break from work. There was some unfinished work, but I left it to my supervisor to see and work on. :) After leaving work, I bought two fish tacos to satiate my hunger. It was very scrumptious and delicious!

While eating, I noticed someone familiar walk by. Waving my hands high and in a joyful manner, he stared at me for about 3 seconds before making a recognizing face. He told me that he was confused when an asian with long hair dude was waving at him. He did not recognize my appearance, as he thought I resembled an asian person who knew kung-fu (which I do not know). He also mentioned that I was like a version of Jackie Chan! Intriguing news! I told him that I would say good bye to my hair. And to my surprise, he was showing a great deal of shock! "No!!! Don't do it!!" And to make sure he would not forget my appearance, he took a few pictures of me.

I soon made my way to get my haircut. The barber that cut my hair was quite amazed at my glorious locks! I had long hair! So he automatically assumed that I just wanted to get my hair trimmed slightly or put into maintenance for making me "Simply Beautiful". However... I told him to just give me a buzz cut. He was shocked! He asked again to make sure that I was serious... and I was pretty serious. Just cut it all off.

He started on my hair with a pair of scissors, but the thickness of my glorious hair was too strong for mere scissors to handle. "Wow... that is a lot of hair," he said. He switched to shears and began shaving off the sides of my head. With every shave of the shears, he said, "That is a lot of hair." It is as if I couldn't see that it was a lot of hair! To make the hair look nice, he began to cut the hair in a shredding way. Again... he started to repeat the same thing that he was saying the whole time. I saw much persistance in him, continuing to say this even if his he cuts hair as a profession. My haircut was finally finished!!!

My parents and family were shocked to see my hair so short. They thought I was someone else. My friends were also amazed with the short hair!

Running like the wind, and the missing bruin card

At UCLA, to reserve tennis courts... one must have a Tennis Reservation Number, which has an expiration date. During the beginning of summer, I acquired one of these numbers with a written expiration date of 8/30/09. Evidently, one can see that it has expired according to the written date. So, half way through work, as a break, I began to journey to the Sunset Recreation Center, where I originally got my first number.

Slowly walking out of the work place, I noticed a biker passing by far in the distance. Looking at the biker a little closely... I noticed a great resemblance to my friend... So, I started sprinting towards the biker and caught up. I called their name, and to their surprise, I had managed to keep up with the bike's speed. :) I was proud, but very tired. After chatting a little, I made my way up to the back entrance of Sunset Recreation. At that moment... I realized that my bruin ID was missing!!!

At that very moment, I started to freak out! Where could I have dropped it?! Maybe I had dropped it when I pulled out my wallet to pay for food!!! Or maybe I left it at work?!?!

Many bad pessimistic thoughts started to fill my mind. I was drenched in sweat and fear. By this time, my legs have started to hurt from the sprinting. I was extremely tired. I ended up back at work to find that my card was laying there... on top of my bag. I was relieved but tired.

Soon, I made my way up to Sunset Recreation again. The heat was overwhelming, so I took of my shirt to allow my undershirt to be my only source of protection from the Sun's violently harsh rays. I made my way back up although weakened by the previous journey. Finally, I had arrived at the front desk of the recreation center. There, I sought to get a new Tennis Reservation Number... Only to be told that the staff who wrote down 8/30/09 as the expiration date was WRONG. The number expires on 9/30/09... In the end... I made my way back down... exhausted from the long journey... aching from the treacherous terrains...

I made my way back to work safely... and returned home... Today was a fun day! :)

Salsaing the Night Away

Another day at work at the Alumni Center, but the fun began after work around 5 pm.

Shortly after I left the premises of the Alumni Center, I journeyed my way to the gym, where I changed into some nice shorts and t-shirt. I had an agenda today, to visit some friends who lived about 10 minutes from campus. I had not seen them for a while due to some unusual circumstances with someone.

They greeted me happily and I missed them dearly. One of them had their birthday yesterday, so I gave her a birthday card and a personally designed photoshop card. She was overwhelmed with joy! Having nice gifts even after her birthday has passed.

After visiting them, I set off to my next location, the gym! There awaited the rock wall, waiting for me to climb her every path and crack and handle. When I arrived, I equipped myself with my red Five-Ten shoes and a green chalk back to my side. I was ready... But at the same time, fearful of the wall. I had previously managed to injure myself, which weakened my fingers. However, a few weeks before, I purchased a small stress ball that is said to help strengthen your fingers. And indeed... they worked... I climbed to the best of my ability and safely...

Next stop... 8:30 pm... SALSA! I awaited this class all day. Earlier in the morning, I looked up Salsa techniques and moves on youtube to prepare me for the final night of Summer Salsa. We learned two different moves tonight, one where the girls had to go under the guy's legs while she laid low, and one where we were able to stay in close proximity while doing cross body leads (one where the man can turn their partner from one side and lead to the other). Not only was today the last day of Salsa lessons for summer, but there were fewer classmates today. So few, that I was almost able to dance EVERY time! Because there was almost a 1:1 ratio for males and females. :) I got to dance with people I knew. I was also complimented on my improvement by one of my female partners! One of the funniest moments tonight, was a cantonese speaking girl that I was dancing with. She was really cute and fun to get along with. At the end of class, I exchanged numbers with a few of my Salsa classmates, probably to meet up some time for Street Salsa or Salsa Clubs.

My legs are BURNING with tiredness. I am really happy I ended the night on such a high note. I really wished the night would not end... but it must... Else than that... Salsa away!!!

BTW... my stiffness in my calf is still there... DAMN CALF CRAMPS!!!!

A crampy cramp in my day...

Many small events seemed to make the day more enjoyable as my friend came over to talk to me for about half an hour. She had just returned from interning in New York, so it was nice to see her again. Such chats may seem like nothing, but it does a whole lot on relieving me from the stresses of the world, allowing me to focus on the smaller things.

Another big thing that happened today, occurred when I drove into the backyard of my house. Unfortunately... I went a little fast and slammed the car against the dog house... Good thing my dog was not in there... but she seemed very happy to see that I returned home safely. (The dog house is still intact and in one piece)

After having dinner, I was overcome by fatigue, probably induced by the food coma. So, I went to lie in bed, waiting for the food coma to either pass or fade away into dreamland.

However, it was not dreamland that I entered... but the land of nightmares! A killer cramp in my lower right calf had woke me from my slumber. Never have I had a cramp before in my calves... and my god it was PAINFUL. I was yelping in pain the moment it had woken me. Coincidentally, my brother overheard my cries of pain and came to help me massage my calf. It was such an excruciating pain. After about a minute, the cramping had stopped, but left me shocked and in fear. Why did I get a cramp? What is going on?!

I had risen from bed trying to walk, only to find the muscles stiff and locked in my calf. Frustration was overtaking me as this happened. But with the help and suggestions of going slowly, I made my way to the dining room where my family was. Sitting there, I was rubbing my calf and whining about it. Apparently, all of my family members have experienced cramps in their lower calves before. It came to me as a surprise.

Soon, my brother had explained to me that cramps were due to the lack of oxygen in that part of the body. So, cramps usually occur when your brain tries to move a certain body part, but there is not enough oxygen allocated in that area. Thus, that certain body part moves with the lack of oxygen, and the muscles start to cramp. I believe cramps also cause damage to the muscles, do to the improper amount of oxygen to function.

All I can say... is... WOW.... Cramps in the lower leg is a bitch!

Hopefully the stiffness in the muscle will subside. So, I can Salsa tomorrow. Charlotte! Watch out! Alastor's coming for some Salsa next weekend!!

Start of Alastor's Blog

Greetings! I am Alastor!

After much consideration... And hours of Little Big Planet fun with friends... I was convinced to start my Blag, in which I will write and talk about daily things that happen. In addition, it should help me relieve my stress when I am unable to talk to friends directly about it. Letting it all out :)

Well... I can talk to people with a mere phone call... which I was told that I should do... :P

I hope you all have a fun time at my blag :)
